Your wedding day is one of the most meaningful milestones in your life, and if you’re a pet parent, there’s a good chance you want your four-legged best friend by your side. As a photographer who specializes in both weddings and pet portraits, I’ve seen firsthand how beautiful (and doable!) it is to include your pet in your celebration. Here’s everything you need to know to make it stress-free and picture-perfect.
1. Make Sure Your Venue is Pet-Friendly
Not all venues allow animals, so it’s important to double-check before planning around your pet. Ask about restrictions (indoors vs. outdoors, leashes, noise concerns) and if they’ve hosted weddings with pets before.
I once had a couple who fell in love with a gorgeous garden venue, only to discover pets weren’t allowed anywhere on the property. Don’t let this happen to you! Get the pet policy in writing during your venue tour.

3. Dress to Impress (Comfortably)
Bowties, flower collars, or even custom outfits are adorable! But make sure anything your pet wears is breathable, non-restrictive, and tested ahead of time. Avoid anything they’ll try to chew off or that might cause overheating.
Here’s a pro tip from my years behind the camera: the most photogenic pets are comfortable pets. I’ve seen too many couples get caught up in elaborate costumes that leave their dog miserable and fidgety during photos. Keep it simple and stylish.
